Where in Louisville do you go to get these pictures?
Can you see M31 and some other DSOs without a telescope?

I just haul my scope out to the backyard. If you are in the Louisville-Longmont-Boulder area join us sometime at a star party… see http://www.longmontastro.org for schedule.
From a dark site a number of deep sky objects are visible to the naked eye. M31 for sure, M33, M13, quite a few open clusters — Pleades M45 of course, Praespe. Just off the top of my head, probably quite a few more…
With just 10×50 binnoculars you can see more than 80 of the Messier objects.
