I spent a little time on some images I took last Fri. Below is one taken about 30 sec earlier than the previous one posted. Click a couple times on image to view 1024×1280 version.
hi
what a great pic, i’m newish to observing and want to get a telescope so i can see detail like this. What sort of telescope was it, what’s the best for a beginner like me. ive just been outside observing Jupiter, with my eyes and cheap binocs.
The scope used to take the images is a Celestron Nexstar11.
Before buying a scope I’d recommend joining a local astronomy club. They’ll have observing sessions where you check out scopes of all types first hand.
In general for beginners, an 8 or 10 inch dobsonian would be reasonably affordable and still provide enough aperature so you can get some good views.
hi
thanks Vern, loving your site and video, although i realise that there is a time difference in observing as i am in the UK. I saw jupiter just before 10pm here. Thanks for the advice, I have checked out local astronomy groups and there are a few in my area.
I have loved the stars since being a kid and have a re newed interest every since January when Venus was so beautifull and visable.
