Mars on Sept. 29, 2009

Below image on the left is of Mars at 5:11 mdt this morning. Its now only 6.6 arc sec across — only about 40 pixels across even at F25 (fl 7000mm). Some features are visible, Syrtis Major and Mare Tyrrehenum form the “check mark” shape. North polar cap faintly visible? (North approximately up, east to the left in the image).

Celestron Nexstar 11 telescope, Televue 2.5X Powermate, DMK 21AU04.AS video camera (monochrome), 1/110 sec, 60 fps, aligned and stacked with Registax5. Sky partly cloudy, temperature 45 deg. F, 3-5 mph wind, transparency good, turbulence about 5/10, location Louisville, CO.
